Jasper Newton Long Term Recovery Group was formed due to the natural disasters occuring in Jasper and Newton Counties, such as Hurricane Harvey, 100-year flooding, Hurricane Laura, and ice storms.
Many residents of the area were left without a safe or sanitary residence for their families. JNLTRG stepped in and helped these familes through grants and donations.
JNLTRG repaired over 257 homes with damage from Hurricane Harvey. There were also 105 homes repaired by First Baptist Church in Kirbyville, which is our homebase. Grants and volunteers repaired over 337 homes in Jasper and Newton Counties with damage from Hurricane Harvey and the 100-year flood.
Hurricane Laura and the ice storm destroyed more residences in the area and JNLTRG repaired 144 homes in a four month period, of which 11 of those were damaged from the ice storm.
There were also 135 debris clean up/tarp placements during these storms.
